During my random searches in Internet today, I came across Prof. Arindam chaudhuri blog on how Barak Obama’s healthcare reforms is getting protested by the American citizens. And this made me recall Barrack Obama Election Campaign, one of  the best example which actually set very high benchmarks for politicians in particular and businesses in general on how to create a higer level of engagement with your followers or customers by using social media.

This campaign that created an unforeseen force to raise money, organize locally, fight smear campaigns and get out the vote that helped them topple the Clinton machine and then John McCain and the at the end, Republicans. As a result, when he arrived at Whitehouse, Mr. President not only had a political base, but a database, millions of names of supporters who could be engaged almost instantly. And there’s every reason to believe that he will use the network not just to campaign, but to govern.

So, I started my research on the barakobama.com and I realized President Obama and his team is just doing that. I tried to research a little more and I found over the past 2 months his site has picked up traffic by more then 18%.  With more then 1.5 million Unique visitors.

After “Obama”, “Healthcare” is the most prominent category of searched keywords which is bringing traffic to his site (source: compete.com and Alexa.com)

His e-mail message to his supporters after he was elected as President of USA included the line, “We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next”, and he is using his well established network to do the same.

On his Barackobama.com site they are running a campaign asking people to sign a letter to congress in support of Barack Obama Campaign. His twitter account (www.twitter.com/barackobama) has also witnessed increase in the last 3 months.

I am thrilled at the way Mr. Obama is running the campaign for the healthcare. It will be interesting to see Mr. Obama and his team recreating another Mastermind social media campaign which will set example for politicians and Business houses across the globe.
